Louise Hapton is a French writer, painter, ceramicist and mixed-media sculptor based in London. A graduate of the University of Westminster’s Fine Art Mixed Media BA, she completed an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.
Hapton’s practice explores vulnerability through cuteness, fragility and the visual culture of growing up online. Drawing on early 2000s internet culture, from kawaii and magical-girl manga to creepypastas, she reworks hyper-feminine and “girly” aesthetics as tools of female and queer empowerment.
Her recent mixed-media sculptures combine ceramics with found objects, discarded toys, abandoned plushies and expanding foam, constructing a mythology around consumerism, desire, waste and devotion. Resembling relics from a culture addicted to cuteness and consumption, these hybrid forms sit between the endearing and unsettling.
Across painting and sculpture, Hapton challenges the male gaze and gendered expectations while reconsidering vulnerability as a source of agency and strength.
